Betfred was founded in 1967 by Fred Done - so, it’s fair to say they’ve got some experience. Originally a UK-facing company that started out with betting shops it’s now an international brand with an excellent online presence. Betfred launched in South Africa in 2022 with their acquisiton of Phumelela and Betting World South Africa. Through this acquisition Betfred was able to get a great online betting product and an existing set of customers - this all means that Betfred are able to bring their lotto betting products to market very fast in South Africa. So, let’s take a look at how it compares.
You will notice that Betfred has a very wide range of lotteries - all of the favourites including the 49’s, Gosloto and SA Daily. However, Betfred also then has a couple of lotteries not available anywhere else - Fred’s Hourly Powerball and The Nifty Fifty. UK 49’s customers particularly like the Nifty Fifty given the fact that it’s very similar to the 49’s but is drawn more frequently. Both have six ball plus a bonus ball drawn, however, the UK 49’s is from 49 balls and the Nifty Fifty is from 50.
